Features
Live variant preview
See exactly which products and variants your conditions match — before saving the rule.
The Browse button is one of the most useful features in the rule builder. It shows you exactly which variants your current conditions will discount — before you save or activate the rule.
How to use it
While building or editing a rule, click Browse in the condition builder section. A modal opens showing:
- Matched products — every product with at least one matching variant
- Matched variants — the specific variants that qualify
- Counters — total product count and total variant count
- Limit warnings — alerts you if you're approaching Shopify's 100-line cap
You can browse as many times as you want. Adjust conditions, click Browse again, see the new result.
Why this matters
Discount rules can produce surprising results when conditions are slightly off. Without a preview, you'd save the rule, activate it, run a test purchase, see something wrong, deactivate, edit, and retry — slow and error-prone.
Browse moves all of that to before you save. No surprises at checkout.
Workflow
The recommended flow for any rule:
- Build your conditions
- Click Browse
- Spot-check the preview — does it include items you'd expect? Exclude ones you wouldn't?
- Adjust conditions if needed
- Browse again
- Save once the preview matches your intent
Filtering the preview
The preview view supports searching by product title to verify specific items are (or aren't) included. Useful when checking edge cases.
Counter behavior
The counter helps you stay within Shopify's discount limit:
- Full products (where every variant matches) count as 1 line
- Partial products (where only some variants match) count as N lines, one per matched variant
The counter shows both numbers separately. See Understanding the 100-variant limit for details.
Notes
- The preview reflects current Shopify state — products you've recently added or removed will be reflected.
- If you change product tags, options, or metafields, re-browse to see updated matches.
- The preview is read-only; it shows what would be discounted, not what's already discounted.
